METEOR PLAN TRANSLATIONS, PART TWO

Years ago i put up the translation for the First Part of Meteor Plan, but then got too lazy to actually put up the second part. The wonderful [tumblr.com profile] nekovale came to the rescue and translated part 2 from Italian to English, so with her permission I'm putting these ups for people who might be interested. Enjoy!

TRACK ONE

Ed and Al arrive to the church and meet up with Lan Fan. They ask her if she's seen a girl - the answer is no - and what is she doing in there. Lan Fan replies that Ling is inside eating and that the person with him is Coulomb, a member of the Yao Clan. But right after she corrects herself, saying it would be better to say he “was” a member of the Yao Clan. Al starts to ask for explanations but Lan Fan notices something weird is going on inside the church and in that same moment the ground starts to tremble.

Lan Fan, Ed and Al are caught by some tentacles that Ed recognizes as the lichens that plague the town; though Al objects that those are not simple lichens anymore.

Coulomb asks Ling to join him and to feed everyone who stands in their way to the Tai Sui.

Coulomb: "Didn't you want power?"

Child Ling: "I want power. An absolute power in order to protect the Yao Clan...!"

Coulomb: "Take a good look! This... is power!"

“Monthly Shonen Gangan's supplement: Drama CD, Full Metal Alchemist - Meteor Plan, second part.”

TRACK TWO

Ling: “I refuse.”

Coulomb: “You don’t feel like borrowing the power of a monster in order to become emperor? You’re so weak…”

Ling: “Don’t make me laugh! In order to become emperor I’d even use the power of a monster! What I am refusing… is you, Coulomb. Yeah, right. What if I killed you and then took only the monster?”

Coulomb: “You’re saying such sad things! You refuse me? Me, who cares about the Yao Clan and you, Ling, more than anyone else?”

Ling: “That’s not true. What you really care about…”

The monster crashes into the church. Coulomb asks Ling if Lan Fan is a servant of his and says he won’t need her anymore once he has the Tai Sui by his side. Ling asks Coulomb to let go the three trapped by the tentacles but when Coulomb refuses, Ling concludes there’s no other way than killing him: this way Tai Sui will calm down. Ling regrets not killing Coulomb 5 years earlier with his own hands.

Coulomb then makes a proposal: if Ling wins, Tai Sui will let the “hostages” go, while if he wins, Ling will obey him. Ling yells: “Whatever you say” and the two start fighting. Coulomb notices that Ling mixes martial arts and swordsmanship and compliments him for starting to use his head.

But despite this, he tells him it’s still not enough and that if he doesn’t focus more, the duel will be over right away.

Lan Fan asks Al if there’s anything they can do to get free from Tai Sui and Ed comments that if he could use his hands it wouldn’t be a problem, but nor him nor his brother can get free from the tentacles’ hold.

Coulomb: “So, Ling? Feeling like changing your mind?”

Ling: “You think I could ever change my mind on something like that? Idiot!”

Coulomb: “Your stubbornness hasn’t changed at all! However…!”

Ling: “Damn! My katana…!”

Coulomb: “In cases like these you’d say “checkmate” in this country, right? Come on, come with me, Ling! You don’t have to do anything, I…”

Ling: “I thought I had said I refuse!”

Coulomb: “Why don’t you understand? I’m saying I’ll make you the emperor…!”

In that moment, a female voice says that it sure is a problem when someone takes over someone else’s property without asking. Tai Sui lets the three hostages go and starts gathering around a point, while Coulomb complains that he never ordered it to do something like that. He turns towards the girl who just appeared, noticing it’s the mayor’s daughter… or maybe not.

Coulomb: “Who are you?”

Nono(?): “I am the guardian of these children.”

Ed: “Ehi, Nono! ...No, wait, might it be… Meivelle?”

Meivelle: “That’s right, Ed.”

Coulomb: “Guardian, you say? What nonsense! That thing is mine! Mine!”

Meivelle: “You’re the one saying nonsense, you silly! Yes, I am grateful you woke up these children. But now you must give them back to me. After all, these children have to work with me to spread the destruction!”

Coulomb: “Destruction?”

Al: “Meivelle ? Are you really Meivelle ? But…”

Meivelle: “Yes… I am also Meivelle.”

Al: “Also?”

Meivelle turns to Coulomb and says that to thank him for what he’s done for her, she’ll have him eaten by Tai Sui! Coulomb tries to stop it but Tai Sui devours him exactly like the lichen had done at the mayor’s house. Meivelle compliments the creature and starts walking away saying they need to “wake everyone up”.

Al: “Wait, ehi, Meivelle!”

Meivelle: “What is it, Al?”

Al: “It’s weird! Spread the destruction, what does it mean?! Hadn’t you said “save us”?”

Meivelle: “Yeah, who knows… well, see ya!”

In that moment both the ground and the ceiling start to collapse and everyone falls down…

TRACK THREE

Al wakes up and realizes he’s in the church’s basement, aka where the military search lab used to be. Looking up he notices there’s a big hole in the floor and wonders if Meivelle and the others are further down. Ling and Lan Fan come to as well. Not seeing his brother around, Al starts calling for him and hears muffled screeches coming from under some rubbles. Lifting them up, he manages to get Ed free.
Ed: “I thought I would die…”

Ed turns to Ling and asks him who Coulomb was. Ling explains that he was one of his teachers, he was considered a genius for his fighting skills and alchemy and that he was like a big brother for him. He should have died after Ling himself had sentenced him to death, but he had survived.

Ling then asks about the monster from before and Ed replies that he has no idea and that he still has only the same information as before: it’s a mysterious monster that came down with a meteor from outer space. Al remarks it sounds like something out of a novel but Ed reminds him that in the military search lab they’re now standing in they had studied this very seriously. He then wonders what Meivelle might be, since it’s borrowing Nono’s voice to talk.

Lan Fan addresses Ling and starts telling him about something inside of her… until her tone of voice changes and she explains that inside of her is now Meivelle’s spirit, necessary to talk with the children of the stars, and victim of the research once carried in that laboratory. Al asks what she means but Ling says there’s another presence inside Lan Fan now and asks who is it.

The presence inside Lan Fan explains that she is Meivelle too, but since she’s been expelled from Nono’s body she borrowed Lan Fan’s body. She is the one who had visited them in Central. And when Al mentions that Nono too, earlier, had said she was Meivelle, she replies that that’s still “Meivelle”. Ed asks for more explanations, while a tremor starts coming from under the ground, and Lan Fan/Meivelle explains that they’re both “Meivelle”, two separated fragments of the same soul belonging to a girl named Meivelle.

Lan Fan/Meivelle: “I’m the heart that wishes for salvation. She is the heart that craves vengeance for the world she couldn’t achieve.”

Al: “Two… hearts?”

Ling: “It’s not very clear to me but… is it like the light and the dark?”

Lan Fan/Meivelle: “However you put it is fine by me.”

Ed starts getting confused with all these identical names and refers to Nono/Meivelle as “Black Meivelle”, prompting Lan Fan/Meivelle’s comment: “It’s a horrible name”. He gets angry because he’s just trying to make easy something complicated and asks what Black Meivelle has in mind. Lan Fan/Meivelle says that Black Meivelle is trying to reawaken the children of the stars that are underground, moved by her hate for the world, and that the tremor they’re feeling right now is a sign of this. Lan Fan/Meivelle says there’s not much time left and asks the others to lend her their strength.

TRACK FOUR

Ed complains the descent seems to never end and Al reprimands him by telling him it’s not the moment for that, because if they don’t hurry….

Ling asks Lan Fan/Meivelle if once everything’s over she will give back Lan Fan’s body and she promises she will, saying that’s also why they need to be quick. Ed complains that it’s Lan Fan/Meivelle’s fault for taking so long explaining when he had asked to make it brief and she points out he was the one who asked to be told everything.

*flashback*

Ed: “Alright, I’ll help you. So tell us everything. Briefly.”

Lan Fan/Meivelle: “Alright. It all started 35 years ago. A meteor landed near this town. In order to study what was attached to it, this research lab was built.”

The thing attached to the meteor was very different from terrestrial animals. The leader of the research was Garter Weltz, a researcher from the local military, and the person the town was named after. The research project was called “Meteor Project” but the “study object 05”, retrieved on the meteor and somehow seeming similar to an animal, at first didn’t show any type of reaction to anything.

That was until Weltz’s daughter, who didn’t often get out of her house due to her natural weak health, was granted access to the laboratory. There, she met “study object 05”, a child of the stars, that showed a reaction never witnessed before and also changed form. The girl’s name was Meivelle and despite being very physically weak she had a particular sensitivity that allowed her to communicate with animals or plants.

Happy to be able to help her father, she joined the research and “study object 05” was fed and started to multiply. The project started to be considered for military purposes but things didn’t go well, also because Meivelle started to get sicker and sicker and at the same time “study object 05” showed no more reactions. Meivelle’s father, trying to preserve the body of his now dying daughter, connected her to a preservation device and in that exact moment “study object 05” went crazy, causing the fire that destroyed the city.

“Study object 05” wanted to keep sleeping with Meivelle but a part of it was left behind, burned by the fire and apparently dead. That was what Coulomb had awakened with his alchemy.

TRACK FIVE

The Elric brothers complain –this time together- that their descent seems to never end. Suddenly a human figure appears in front of them and starts talking with Coulomb’s voice, even if distorted. Ling tells Ed and Al to go on and that he’ll catch up later, while Ed notes this is the same thing he saw happen at the mayor’s house. Meivelle apologizes to Ling and he replies saying to take care of his precious servant’s body.

Coulomb repeats once again he wants to make him emperor and that he cares about him but Ling tells him for the second time that’s not it: what he really cared about was himself and he was the one who wanted to become emperor. He wanted to satisfy his own pride showing he had the strength to take the emperor’s seat, using Ling as a proof of it. And this is why Ling had ordered his death, because he knew people like him tend to attract ruin with time.

Coulomb compliments him for understanding his true intentions despite being just a kid at the time but he tells him he’s wrong: he now can become emperor, because he fused with Tai Sui and became a god on earth. His body gets bigger until he turns into a monster but Ling launches an attack, saying that even if he is a god he still has only his own weight on his shoulders, while Ling has to carry the weight of the life of thousands of people.

TRACK SIX

Ed and Al finally reach the bottom, entering an enormous place. They’re received by Black Meivelle, who says they’re late because the children have already awakened. Lan Fan/Meivelle says instead that there’s still time and Ed asks if she’s sure she wants to destroy the device that’s keeping her alive. She says that if they destroy the device her body preserved inside of it will be consumed and the fragments of her spirit will dissolve too.

Lan Fan/Meivelle: “I’m dead. So it’s natural for me to disappear. This way, the children of the stars will stop as well.”

Black Meivelle: “I won’t disappear! I will get my revenge on this world!”

Lan Fan/Meivelle explains that for her father she was just a tool to carry on his research and that being connected to the preservation device had made her suffer. But nobody had come to save her and from those painful feelings Black Meivelle was born. But she had come to understand that getting her revenge would have changed nothing.

Black Meivelle: “Shut up! If you want to disappear so bad, do so by yourself! Children of the stars, eat all of them!”

Lan Fan/Meivelle asks again to the Elric brothers to do what she requested and they make up their mind.

Al: "We are the Elric's Siblings Guidance on Everything Office!"

Ed: "We can solve any of your troubles, with Alchemy!"

While Al stays back to protect Lan Fan/Meivelle, Ed tries to make his way through the children of the stars. Eventually he manages to reach the preservation device and Black Meivelle, who begs him hysterically not to get any closer.

Ed: “Meivelle… back at the hotel, I heard those words.”

Meivelle: “Please… save us.”

Ed: “Those words… they came from you as well, didn’t they?”

Black Meivelle: “No…”

Ed: “I will save you. You can rest… in peace…”

Ed destroys the device.

Meivelle: “Yes, right… with this… finally… thank you, Miniward Elric…”

Ed: “Idiot. My name’s Edward.”

TRACK SEVEN:

Al tells Lan Fan/Meivelle to stay close to him but realizes the monsters are too many. He wonders how Ed’s doing with the device but a monster tries to attack him… and then stops. Ed made it. Lan Fan/Meivelle says this way everyone will be able to rest, thanks Al, says to thank Ed too and to apologize to Ling and Lan Fan.

Al: “It’s alright. You don’t have to worry about anything anymore, Meivelle.”

Meivelle: “Yes, that’s true. This time, my sleep will be peaceful.”

Lan Fan comes to as herself again and Al wonders if everything’s over. Meanwhile, Ling has defeated Coulomb.

Ed: “Oh, you won.”

Ling: “Obviously, who do you think I am?”

Ling notices Nono is safe too, while Al jokes about how it would be better if it was Ed to carry her. All together, they can now go back to the surface.

TRACK EIGHT

Ed: “Good, no one in sight. Let’s go!”

Al: “Ehi, Ling! Where is Lan Fan?”

Ling: “She’s hiding her presence, but she’s nearby.”

Ed: “Ehi, you guys! Shhh!!”

Al asks what all this secrecy is about since the town is safe now but his brother replies it’s a precaution... in case Nono tried to follow him.

Ling: “Eh? Nono? Did something happen with Nono?”

Ed: “No, it’s nothing, it doesn’t have anything to do with you.”

Ling: “Oh… then I can ask her directly?”

Ed: “Eh?”

Ling: “Hey, Nono?”

Nono: “Eh, me?”

Ed: “Nono… how long have you been there?”

Nono: “Since now.”

Ed starts babbling but Nono apologizes, saying she had been deceived by a man in the past: he was tall and with a gentle expression so she had sworn the next man she would have fallen for would have been the exact opposite but actually... she doesn’t want to become engaged to someone like that. So she runs away. Al jokes about the fact his brother has been rejected and Ed wonders why it looks like he’s the one who’s been refused now, and Ling suggests to stuff themselves with food to forget once they’re back to Central.

Al and Ling start to head off while Ed, angry because they didn’t listen to him, yells that he will never do the Elric's Siblings Guidance on Everything Office. Lan Fan appears suddenly just to emphasize again how short Ed is and vanishes right after, leaving Ed screaming.

Ed: “Lan Fan!! I don’t want to hear how short I am even from youuuuuuuuuuu!!”
