Form: Come in the form of a Word Sorrel flower. The petals are edible! Eat one for your memory.

Trivial-Negative - Random assassination attempts by heirs of the other clans (headcanon)
What he learns:
I labeled this "headcanon" but I really should have gone for implied. Basically! Xing's royal clans are very much not on friendly terms with each other, and since there being so many heirs means there's lots of competition, it's pretty normal for them to try to kill each other. A dead guy can't take the throne! Etc. Ling specifically mention he's had people trying to assassinate him since he was a child, so, this memory is going to be about that.
The memory itself is going to have at least one of those attempts in it (I was thinking of having a collection of a bunch of them at first, but I'm not sure) , and talk about other ones as well. I haven't really thought of setting something up specifically, but it's definitely going to have him at a young age.
Considerations:
Basically, this will give Ling a better idea of how Xing worked. Honestly he already understood the strong implication that a guy from another clan becoming Emperor would be some pretty big trouble, and with a succession war going on it's not like he wasn't expecting this sort of thing. But this will be a confirmation! And also a confirmation that he does not see his siblings as family. This won't actually give him any trust issues whatsoever, and will actually give him a bit of a ego boost re: wow I've been surviving assassination attempts since I was a kid!
Also, another thing that's shown in the series is that Ling can and will fight dirty if it's necessary for his survival. And it's implied it's something he learnt during his childhood because of the assassination attempts, so this will also make him likely to do nice things like throw dirt into someone's eyes during a fight \:D/
